There is some excitement and anticipation in the Football Transfer Tavern as for nearly 27-years Manchester United go into the post season without legendary Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm.
New manager David Moyes is likely to be handed a transfer war chest to add some reinforcements to the Premier League champions as he looks to mould the team into his own style.
However it now seems that an unknown Uruguayan right back could now become Moyes’ first summer signing. The Express today reports that Guillermo Valera has impressed the former Everton boss while on trial at Old Trafford and the club are set to make their move.
The 20-year-old, who has been subject of a bid from United thought to be £2.1 million, has admitted that he enjoyed his trial with the Premier League champions, and said recently: “It was a surprise to get the chance to test with Manchester United. I’m glad and happy, and grateful to Penarol who allowed me to travel.”
He is expected to play in the upcoming World Under-20 Championships this summer but Penarol are desperate to keep hold of their man.
Penarol Vice-president Edgard Welker, said: “It’s an important offer. It’s complicated – it’s not easy.”
