Manchester United are set to play Southampton this weekend where former player Morgan Schneiderlin will return to St Marys for the first time.
Our Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been saying that the player will get a warm reception on his return, and can completely understand his departure this summer, for £24m.
However, they are reading the Mirror with a sigh of relief that they never lost the midfielder sooner as it has been revealed that the midfielder was desperate to leave the club when they were relegated to League One in 2009.
His former manager told the French ball winner that this could be one of the best things to happen to the player as it was help him to develop the physical side of his game to go along with the technical ability he undoubtedly had.
Schneiderlin was pivotal in Southampton’s meteoric rise to the Premier League so it is no wonder that Southampton fans here in the Tavern are glad they kept hold of him!
Southampton fans, do you think you would have gotten back to the Premier League had you lost Schneiderlin in 2009? Let us know what you think below!
