Manchester United striker Anthony Martial should be fit for the visit of Leicester after the international break, according to The Mirror.
The 23-year-old missed the Red Devils’ trip to Southampton on Saturday with a thigh complaint, and will be absent for France’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra, as he aims to recover in time for United’s clash against the Foxes on 14 September.
Meanwhile, the Athletic (via Daily Mail), also report that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘growing frustrated’ with Martial and his fellow strike partner, Marcus Rashford, after the pair continue to squander opportunities in front of goal.
Rashford scored a brace against Chelsea on the Premier League’s opening weekend but is yet to add to his tally, and missed a penalty against Crystal Palace, costing his side dearly at Old Trafford.
As for Martial, he has been equally as wasteful in the final third. The Frenchman also scored in the 4-0 win over Chelsea and then found the net in emphatic style against Wolves just over a fortnight ago, but was not as convincing when Crystal Palace were in town. Against the Eagles, he had three shots with none of them going on target (via WhoScored).
The Athletic (also via Daily Mail) report that Solskjaer has been putting the forwards through extra training drills aimed at improving their poaching abilities.
With 17-year-old Mason Greenwood as the only backup striker to Martial and Rashford, there is added pressure for the duo to score United’s goals this term.
So far though, summer signing Daniel James looks to be the most capable in front of goal. The Welshman currently has three to his name, with his latest coming in the form of a stunning strike inside 10 minutes against Saints on Saturday.
Having Martial back to full fitness will definitely serve as a huge boost for United, who have only managed to score three goals in their previous three outings.
United currently sit 8th in the Premier League table after four games, and already find themselves seven points behind leaders Liverpool, so definitely need to put in a strong performance against Leicester in two weeks’ time to remain in contention at this early stage.
