Deadline day for Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern turned into one to forget as their club failed to land some of their prime transfer targets.
Now The Express indicate that United also missed out on Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan during their late failed raid on La Liga.
The 26-year-old Turkish winger had been closely linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool but United were the club who came closest to securing his services according to his agent Ahmet Bulut.
United endured a frustrating time in window, with only Marouane Fellaini arriving at Old Trafford despite reported links to a series of top class players and the club paid £4 million more for the Everton man than they could have just a few weeks earlier given his release clause.
“Atletico Madrid do not want to sell Arda however, if his €24 million minimum-fee release clause is activated the club will have to listen to offers,” Bulut told Turkish TV station NTV in the transfer window.
“A transfer to England is likely.”
Turkish paper AMK claim that United had met his £20 million buy out clause, but complications over paperwork meant they were unable to strike a deal.
Turan has become a key part of the Atleti side that claimed the Copa del Rey last term and would certainly add a new dimension to the United attack.
United also failed to sign Portuguese left back Fabio Coentrao on deadline day as the paperwork was not completed in time to ensure a very frustrating time for United supporters in the tavern.
Could Arda Turan have brought something different to the United side or aren’t you too fussed about missing out? Let us know your thoughts below.
