Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are frustrated to hear that they are going to miss out on a defensive target after the Daily Mail revealed that Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte has signed a new three year contract extension.
The Red Devils are expected to target numerous defenders after failing to address the situation last summer, which arguably lost them the title to Chelsea, after defensive errors proved to be the difference.
Laporte, who has been linked with a move to Premier League throughout the previous season, has ended all of the speculation surrounding him by singing a new deal, which raises his buyout clause to £36.5m.
Before signing this new deal his clause was £31.5m, making him vulnerable in the transfer market.
Real Madrid are also interested in the French international so it will be intriguing to see which club make the first move to meet his release clause.
