Manchester United saw their struggles continue this weekend as they once again dropped points at Southampton.

The Red Devils are having a bit of a stinker of a season all in all, and the pressure is mounting more and more on manager Jose Mourinho, who is struggling to get fans and players onside thanks to a series of bad performances and off field issues.

It's abundantly clear that United need some more talent in the squad, and talent which can come directly into the first XI and make an impact.

We here at the Tavern think that the Red Devils have missed a trick in allowing Everton to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, who we think would have been the ideal player in the middle of the park at Old Trafford.

Gomes has looked assured since making the move to Goodison Park, and his performance in the Merseyside derby earlier today highlighted even further just how good a player he can be when given the chance.

Classy in possession, good with the ball, and cool under pressure, Gomes would have been ideal for United and it's strange that they allowed a club like Everton to swoop in and sign him while they spent over £60m on Brazilian Fred.

It looks like a chance missed, but Gomes is only on loan, and United could well still look to tie up a permanent deal for Gomes is they want too.

United fans, what do you think? Have you missed the boat? Let us know in the comments!
