Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking smug after the Sunday Mirror revealed that the Red Devils have kicked Liverpool out of contention of signing Dutch wonderkid, Memphis Depay.
United have supposedly informed PSV Eindhoven that they are willing to meet their £25m asking price for the 21-year-old winger.
This fee is reportedly one of the reasons why Liverpool have exited the race, as the most they would offer for him is £20m.
Louis van Gaal had a good relationship with the winger after working with him during his time as manager of Holland.
And van Gaal is also keen on making the most of his links in the Eredivisie as he is close friends with PSV’s technical director, Marcel Brands.
This could subsequently play a role in bringing Depay to Old Trafford as Brands could push the move in van Gaal’s favour.
