TalkSport state Basque giants Athletic Bilbao have demanded a hefty £35m for defender Aymeric Laporte, widely considered to be one of the best defensive prospects in European football.
The 21-year-old has vast experience despite his tender age, being a regular for Athletic in La Liga whilst also earning experience in the Champions League and Europa League; featuring in the latter this term.
United have eyed Laporte for a while and want to bring the youngster to Old Trafford, where he’d join former Athletic team-mate Ander Herrera, but the Basque outfit have made it clear they will not accept a transfer unless the player’s release clause is met.
Louis Van Gaal’s side must now weigh-up whether that is a fair price for the French defender, or decide to target another defender- with PSG’s Marquinhos, Everton ace John Stones and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane regular names being shouted out as ideal signings at our bar.
United fans, should you pay £35m for Laporte or find another target? Let us know in the comments below!
