The Football Transfer Tavern is buzzing with the news coming from Manchester Evening News who seem to think that Manchester United will not be making any new signings this January transfer window.
That is according to boss Louis van Gaal who is hell bent on making sure that when he splashes the considerable cash he is about to be handed, he wants to make sure that it is on world class players – not panic buys.
van Gaal noted: “I don’t think that we shall be very active as not many players of a certain level are available.
“I have said that when we buy a player he has to be better than the players that are playing now and that is a difficult job.”
As one of our punters notes, it is rather difficult to land top class players in the winter and we all know that there have been some high profile January flops before and United are determined not to panic buy and add to the hall of shame.
Given our landlord thinks that a defensive addition is essential this winter, we think van Gaal will still be keeping his eyes open for potential arrivals but as the Dutchman noted, they are not always available and should that be the case, United will remain quiet this winter.
Manchester United fans. Will failing to land another defender this winter see you miss out on a top four place? Let us know your thoughts below.
