Emre Can’s career in Italy has failed to take off since he joined Juventus last summer.
The 25-year-old was left out of the club’s Champions League squad at the beginning of the campaign, meaning he cannot feature for the Old Lady in Europe, and is yet to start a league match for the Turin-based outfit in 2019-20.
Maurizio Sarri is reportedly set to offload some of the club’s deadwood in January, with Can among the list of players to potentially face the chop, as reported by Sport Witness.
Tuttosport claim that Can could be offered to Manchester United in January. The Red Devils are massively struggling at the moment, having won just two league games all season and need reinforcements in central midfield.
Paul Pogba has struggled with injury this term and, after the departures of both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera this year, United are extremely thin on the ground in midfield so could really do with another man such as Can to help bolster their options.
Having seen such little opportunity in Italy, the German would most likely be open to a move back to the Premier League – the division in which he played over 150 times in whilst at Liverpool.
This move seems like the perfect solution for both Manchester United, who are massively lacking squad depth and experience in midfield and for Can, who is evidently lacking in playing-time at Juve.
With so much competition for places in Turin, it remains unlikely that Can will see regular game-time under Maurizio Sarri. He was also left out of the club’s UCL squad, which in itself tells a story about how little the reigning Italian champions value him.
With this in mind, acquiring a move away from the club seems like the best option for the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, with United seemingly a good option considering their current situation.
Is this the worst Manchester United team in the Premier League era?
