Jamie Sanderson from Metro has raised a few eyebrows in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
He claims that Manchester United have entered talks with Inter Milan over signing versatile midfielder Fredy Guarin.
The 27-year-old is the latest name linked with a January move to Old Trafford as David Moyes seeks to strengthen his troubled side during the upcoming transfer window with funds likely to be granted by worried American owners.
Moyes is reportedly seeking a box-to-box enforcer with Guarin heading his wishlist as the former Everton boss lines up a £15 million offer for the dynamic midfield man.
And Sanderson suggests that the San Siro outfit will have to sell before they can recruit in the New Year with new owner Erick Thohir keen to overhaul the squad. The latest reports in the tavern indicate that Inter directors Marco Branca, Piero Ausilio and Guarin’s agent Marcelo Ferreyra were all in England to open talks yesterday.
If Guarin’s availability is confirmed by Inter, that could see further interest from the Premier League with both Liverpool and Tottenham also keeping tabs on the former Porto man, who actually played under Andre Villas-Boas at the Portuguese club during their memorable treble winning season.
However it is thought that any reported interest Chelsea had in Colombian international has now ended, with no similar negotiations planned with the Stamford Bridge club ahead of a possible January transfer. That could open the way for United to land the highly rated midfielder as Moyes desperately tries to boost his ranks.
