The Daily Mail initially had Manchester United fans looking worried here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they noted that Wayne Rooney would be allowed to leave the club.
On closer inspection however, we noted that although he is allowed to leave, it will only be for the right money and to the right club.
Given Chelsea have been after the forward all summer and have made two bids already for the England international, many punters thought United and David Moyes had finally caved in and would allow Rooney to link up with Jose Mourinho.
Sadly for Blues fans, that is not the case, and although Rooney can depart the club, he would only be allowed to do so for one abroad.
Given all the clubs that the player would consider a move to are shall we say nicely, not exactly interested, this leaves the striker in a bit of a predicament.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona would not even entertain the idea of a move nor would Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
Ligue 1 would be the last resort for the forward but even the likes of mega rich Monaco and Paris Saint Germain have looked at other options before the United player.
This of course means Rooney is virtually stuck at Old Trafford for now and will not be making a move anywhere this summer. Playing second fiddle to Robin van Persie may be something that the forward has to get used to, and ahead of the World Cup, that does not bode well for England.
Will any major clubs in Europe come in for Rooney or are they all overstocked? Let us know your thoughts below.
