Metro have a story that Manchester United fans are rather interested in hearing about this afternoon here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication note that Japanese outcast Shinji Kagawa is determined to fight on at Old Trafford and battle new signing Marouane Fellaini for a place in the United starting eleven.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has struggled to break through and start regularly at Old Trafford since his transfer from the Bundesliga last summer.
Not only did former manager Sir Alex Ferguson keep him as a bit part player last term, but new manager David Moyes seems to be taking the same view, with the player hardly featuring at all under the former Everton boss thus far.
Now Kagawa has claimed that he will be staying at the club, despite rumours linking him with a move away. The player even inspired a Twitter campaign that had ‘#freeshinji’ trending, in an attempt to get the creative player a move away from Old Trafford and playing regularly again.
David Moyes oversaw a disappointing summer transfer window, only signing midfielder Marouane Fellaini from Everton, and would not allow any of his players to leave.
Moyes has a rather underwhelming midfield but still opts not to play the 24-year-old, who is likely to slip even further down the pecking order once Fellaini comes in and gets settled.
Kagawa himself admitted ‘times were tough’ but noted he was keen to stay and fight with Fellaini and for a place in the Red Devils’ starting eleven.
Will Kagawa come good at Old Trafford or will he become one of those so-called wasted talents? Let us know your thoughts below.
