We always knew it was going to be a season of transition at Old Trafford this season but we never could envisage that this would mean a likely seventh-placed finish that leaves the club without Champions League football next season.
The misery that began last summer with a host of failed targets has continued throughout and now Moyes is under pressure to deliver results.
Red Devils fans in the bar are certainly expecting much better from Moyes as he tries to quicken up the transition, although he is likely to be hampered without Champions League football.
The former Everton boss will be given up to £200 million to spend this summer according to today’s copy of The Mirror with the paper outlining a number of possible targets for the Old Trafford club.
With Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand all set to depart, Moyes must look to seriously improve his defence with Southampton left-back Luke Shaw among his top targets.
The 18-year-old, who could make a surprise appearance this summer’s World Cup, is reportedly keen on making the switch to Old Trafford with a £27 million deal in the pipeline.
While Moyes also wants to move for his former Everton right back Seamus Coleman with doubts remaining over Rafael’s future with the Manchester outfit.
Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala is also thought to be a target for Moyes but he is likely to join Manchester City instead where Champions League football is guaranteed.
In midfield, United are confident that Toni Kroos can be persuaded to make the switch to England while Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho is also understood to be a prime target.
