The Footballl Transfer Tavern has opened with a frenzy this afternoon after report emerged overnight that David Moyes is preparing to break Manchester United’s club record transfer when the winter window opens in two days.
Moyes is plotting a stunning £50million transfer bid for Everton’s Ross Barkley, according to the Manchester Evening News.
After a disappointing start to life at Old Trafford, things have improved for United in recent weeks with the club picking up four straight Premier League victories, leaving them just two points off the top four.
Now Moyes appears to be readying himself for a productive January with the in-demand Toffees starlet at the top of his wishlist.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez has reiterated the club’s desire to keep hold of the 21-year-old with the Toffees chief stating that a Gareth Bale sized bid of £86m wouldn’t be enough to prise him away from Goodison Park at this stage of the season.
However United believe that £50m will tempt the Merseyside club to sell the England international despite relations being tense after the Red Devil’s failed attempts to sing Leighton Baines over the summer. This, of course, came after Moyes had replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
This makes us question in the bar whether of not Everton would really sell Barkley to the Red Devils or even if the Glazers would be willing to sanction such a massive bid at this stage of the season?
Should United really spend £50m on the Everton starlet? Let us know your thoughts below.
