The Daily Star today reports that new Manchester United manager David Moyes is set to make an improved £16 million bid to bring Everton left back Leighton Baines to Old Trafford this summer.
Everton reportedly turned down an initial £12 million offer from the former Goodison Park manager with Bill Kenwright keen to keep the England international at the club despite the interest from the Premier League champions.
Kenwright has now offered Baines a massive £70,000-a-week deal in the hope of keeping the 28-year-old former Wigan Athletic man with the Toffees but Moyes is desperate to find a long-term replacment for Patrice Evra and won’t give up the chase easily.
Evra, who only has one-year remaining on his current contract, could be leaving Old Trafford for former club Monaco and Moyes has outlined Baines as the man he wants to replace him.
The view from Everton is that an offer over £18 million may be enough to secure Baines who only has two years left on his contract with the Merseyside club.
Will Manchester United eventually get their hands on Baines this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
