Manchester United plot second raid for €40m defender

The Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are feverishly checking the news channels and Twitter feeds for news of signings following on from the addition of Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

Manager Jose Mourinho is clearly desperate to solidify his defence this summer, having lambasted them for most of the season, and looks to be going back to Benfica for another move.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils have launched a €35m bid for Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo as Mourinho looks to add depth ahead of a return to the Champions League and building towards a Premier League title challenge.

However, in order to land the 23-year-old, who can also be deployed as a left-back, the Europa League winners are going to have to up their bid with the Portuguese side supposedly looking for at least €40m from any deal.

The Portuguese international was a mainstay last season, alongside new United man Lindelof, as they lifted the league title.

United fans, we want to hear from you! Do you think Mourinho still needs to add to the defence before the new season? How much do you know about Semedo? Let us know in the comments below…
