Attention in the Football Transfer Tavern has once again turned to Manchester United with Charles Perrin from The Express dropping by to offer an update on another of David Moyes’ January transfer targets.
He claims that Porto midfielder Lucho Gonzalez has now reportedly emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United as they look to strengthen when the transfer window opens next month.
Moyes watched Porto take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last week where it was first thought he was casting his eye over Atletico star Koke.
But according to Perrin, he was also keeping tabs on the 32-year-old Argentine midfielder, whom he has tried to sign twice when he managed Everton.
The veteran Porto man only has six months remaining on his current deal at the Estadio do Dragao, and that could see him arriving in Manchester in a cut-price January deal as Moyes seeks creative reinforcements.
Although he certainly cannot be viewed as the long-term solution to the Red Devils midfield issues, he may act as a temporary stop gap for United as they try to secure Champions League qualification this season.
Failure to seal a place in the elite European competition could be a disaster for the Old Trafford club, who are trying to rebuild after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement at the end of last season.
Can you really see United moving for the experienced midfield man? Let us know your thoughts below.
