Pints have been raised in the Football Transfer Tavern today after another transfer rumour emerged at the bar.
The Mirror claim that Manchester United could move for £20 million rated midfielder Nemanja Matic during the January transfer window.
The former Chelsea man had spent two years at Stamford Bridge, where he never made a start for the club, before he was sold to Benfica in 2012 as part of the deal that took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge.
Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had been linked with the 25-year-old in the past and now his successor David Moyes could reportedly bring him back to the Premier League by matching the Portuguese club’s asking price.
As one Chelsea supporters at the bar admits, the Serbian international was never really given a proper chance at Chelsea, and since his very impressive displays in the centre of the park for Benfica, it comes as no surprise to see him attracting interest from the Premier League.
Playing as a deep lying midfielder for Benfica, he is finally living up to reputation and could prove to be the missing piece of Moyes’ jigsaw at Old Trafford as he the new boss searches for a midfield anchor in his side.
United could yet face competition from Napoli and Rafael Benitez as the former Blues boss looks to further strengthen his team in the upcoming window.
