Manchester United poised to rekindle failed transfer swoop

Ander HerreraFans in the Football Transfer Tavern unfortunately witnessed their first boring game of the World Cup yesterday when Nigeria took on Iran in a drab 0-0 stalemate.

But don’t worry; the domestic rumours don’t get that boring, especially for Manchester United fans it seems.

The Daily Star are reporting that the Red Devils are plotting a £25 million bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.

According to reports, Louis van Gaal has instructed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to launch the bid despite the fact Herrera’s release clause is £30 million.

But the Reds face a race against time to secure any deal of that figure as the Spaniard’s release-fee rises to £35 million at the end of June.

The United fans in here want to know why they won’t just pay the fee having been linked with the former Spanish Under-21 international for what seems an eternity.

And it won’t get any easier for van Gaal’s representatives with Bilbao more than likely to try and delay any move for Herrera as they look for the best possible compensation for losing their star man.

Manchester United fans. Should your club stump up the £30 million needed to trigger his release clause? Let us know your thoughts below.
