The transfer destination of Will Hughes is again the main topic of discussion here in the Football Transfer Tavern today.
The latest rumours in the bar had strongly linked the 18-year-old with a possible switch to Liverpool in the near future but Mail Online now report that Manchester United have entered the pursuit for the Derby County starlet in the January transfer window.
David Moyes is looking to add to his current squad when the window opens in the New Year and he has now reportedly targeted a move for the England Under-21 international.
Hughes has already made 50 appearances for the Rams in the Championship and has emerged as one of the finest young talents for a generation with Brendan Rodgers understood to be eyeing up the midfield as a long-term replacement for Reds legend Steven Gerrard.
Watching scouts would have been impressed in his last outing for Steve McClaren’s new side as he netted during last weekend’s Championship victory over Leeds United but he misses out on tonight’s England Under-21 fixture with San Marino due to groin injury.
McClaren has already confirmed that the Pride Park club could face a battle to hang onto their talent, saying: “Our job is to make sure he makes it.
“Eventually he will be too good. What we need behind that is players coming through to replace him.”
A possible move to Old Trafford could see the blonde-haired midfield man returning to Derby for the rest of the campaign as a sweetener to the deal – much like the Wilfried Zaha deal before – as the Rams look for promotion to the Premier League.
Which of these North West rivals will win the race for Will Hughes’ signature? Let us know your thoughts below.
