Manchester United ready to salvage failed summer swoop

coentrao.jpgThe Football Transfer Tavern is preparing for another weekend of intriguing Premier League action when reports emerge that a failed summer target could actually end playing in the English top flight.

Metro suggest that Manchester United could move again for Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao in January after failing to land the Portuguese star on deadline day.

It was reported at the time that Moyes had secured the signature of the 25-year-old left back in an 11th hour deal but the loan move eventually fell through with Madrid unable to get it completed in time.

But despite the setback, the former Everton manager remains hopeful of signing the ex-Benfica defender as he looks to find top quality competition for current first choice Patrice Evra.

Dutch defender Alexander Buttner played for United during Wednesday’s 1-0 Capital One Cup victory over Liverpool but Moyes is still unconvinced by the the 24-year-old Dutchman and that could see a renewed bid for Coentrao.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is willing to let him leave on loan to lower the wage bill at the Bernabeu and the attack minded left back has only made one appearance for the La Liga outfit this term – against Elche this week.

The potential acquisition of Coentrao would spell doubt over the possibly of Everton’s Leighton Baines arriving at Old Trafford in the near future, much to the frustration of United supporters in the tavern following his stunning start to the season and notably two sublime free kicks in the recent fixture with West Ham United.
