Manchester United resist Arsenal bid for £13.5m-rated player

The Arsenal and Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are locked in debate over who has the better deal from a major proposed swap deal between the two clubs. Manchester United fans argue that snapping up Alexis Sanchez is a major coup given how good he has been for Arsenal over the past few seasons. But the Arsenal fans think they have the better deal because Sanchez was due to leave on a free anyway and they say that Henkrikh Mkhitaryan is a good player who has been misused by the Red Devils.

According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal also looked at the possibility of bringing Luke Shaw to North London as part of this deal. Arsenal mentioned their interest in Shaw during negotiations between these two sides.

But Manchester United are not willing to sell Shaw as Jose Mourinho appears to have performed a u-turn in his thinking about the 22-year-old. Shaw had been frozen out by Mourinho for a long time and he has ten appearances under his belt this season.

Shaw, rated at £13.5m by transfermarkt, is back in Mourinho’s plans after rumours emerged that the sporadic England international was due to leave this month or in the summer.

The Verdict

Shaw could be in line for a new contract at Old Trafford after impressing Mourinho in training. The 22-year-old is still very young and has a lot of potential to develop into a top class full back for club and country. Arsenal will be disappointed to miss out on Shaw but Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac are capable players.
