The Football Transfer Tavern is a hive of activity this afternoon as punters prepare for the opening of the winter January window tomorrow.
The mid-season sales are expected to one of the biggest yet with a host of big stars possibly on the move as the top teams in England look to strengthen ahead of what could be the most competitive Premier League title race for years.
Manchester United are expected to be busy after the the unmitigated failure of the summer. One major target for Moyes is still Everton’s Leighton Baines and today’s The Mirror indicates that the Red Devils will make a fresh £16million offer for the England international left-back.
Baines was one of the players that turned down a move to Old Trafford with the reigning Premier League champions managing to only recruit his team-mate Maraoune Felliani instead. However Moyes wants to find a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, who is out-of-contract in the summer, in his side with the 29-year-old top of his agenda.
Roberto Martinez is desperate to keep hold of the former Wigan defender but with only 18 months left on his deal at Goodison Park, they may consider any offers from Old Trafford. But as one punter quips, relations between the two club’s remain tense after the highly publicised pursuit for Baines and that could see the Toffees remaining reluctant to sell Baines to a rival in the Premier League.
Will United finally land Baines in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
