Fortunately for them it seems Louis Van Gaal has identified the need for recruits in January, as reports from Portuguese outlet O Jogo state the Red Devils scouted Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi during the Champions League victory over Chelsea.
The Daily Express states that Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur both sent employees to watch the Dutchman, who is well-known to Van Gaal due to his time in charge of the Dutch national side.
United see the 23-year-old as a replacement for Luke Shaw, who is set to miss six months of the season following a horrific leg-break sustained in the Red Devils opening Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
The injury to Shaw has been a tremendous blow for United and fans at the Transfer Tavern are particularly gutted, having been impressed by the English full-back’s decent start to the new season.
