We do love a transfer battle here in the Football Transfer Tavern and today’s Metro indicates we could have a major one on the cards in the summer.
The paper reports that Manchester United have joined Manchester City and Chelsea in the pursuit for FC Porto’s centre-back Eliaquim Mangala.
The Red Devils reportedly sent one of their main scouts to keep an eye on the 23-year-old during his side’s match against Gil Vicente on Sunday.
The highly-regarded French international defender is being lined to replace Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford, who will depart at the end of the season.
Mangala came very close to joining their rivals from the Etihad Stadium in January as part of a dual capture along with midfielder Fernando. City even had put a chartered plane on to try and secure his signature before the deadline passed but alas he stayed in Portugal.
Manuel Pellegrini could move again for the powerful defender, who has a £35m release clause in his contract, at the end of the season, while Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain are also thought to hold an interest.
Mangala joined Porto in 2011 from Standard Liege in a £6m transfer and has since established himself as one of the finest young defenders in Europe.
Where do you think the FC Porto defender will end up in the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
