Manchester United secure double player agreement – Report

Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are hoping to see a few of their stars extend their stay at Old Trafford, as contracts are set to expire in the summer.

The Red Devils are very much planning for the possibility of a title challenge next season, as they look to replicate Sir Alex Ferguson’s glory days. And, keeping some of their stars at the club will go a long way to ensuring success in the future, as according to reports in the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have extended Ashley Young and Daley Blind’s contracts until 2019.

The duo’s deals were set to expire at Old Trafford in the summer but United have taken up their option of an additional year in both contracts.

Although, it’s understood that Ashley Young was hopeful of earning new terms having established himself as the first-choice left-back, but it appears that the Manchester club were only looking to exercise the extension for now. And, our local Mancunians are delighted that they did, after seeing the Englishman put in performances worthy of making the World Cup squad.

But it’s a whole different story for Blind after only managing to produce four minutes of football in the league since starting the first three league games of the season, and still could leave Old Trafford in the summer. Indeed, the club are looking to get their money’s worth for the Dutchman, which looks to be why they opted to take up the contract extension.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Ashley Young being tied down for a further year is good news for the Red Devils, after making the left-back position his own so far this season. And, opting to trigger the extension on Blind’s contract seems to be more of a business decision, as United will likely receive a fee for the defender in the summer transfer window.
