There is fresh speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern that a massive transfer could be in the pipeline with today’s Daily Star reporting that Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational £90 million swap this summer.
The paper suggests that bookies have taken huge bets on the England international making the surprise move to Real Madrid during the summer.
David Moyes, who succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson as United manager, is set for talks with Rooney about his future when he arrives back for pre-season training. The former Everton boss is desperate to see Rooney remain at Old Trafford but it may be out of the question with the striker wanting to leave.
Rooney could now make the switch to Madrid with the Spanish club able to pay the £30 million required and can match his £250,000-a-week wages.
Carlo Ancelotti, who has taken over at Real, is a long-term fan of Rooney and would be willing to let Ronaldo move to United this summer in a £60 million deal with Moyes eager to see the former Red Devils star back at Old Trafford.
