Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are not at all shocked to hear the Mail note that David Moyes is now set for crunch talks with Wayne Rooney.
The forward has been trying to engineer a move away from Old Trafford all summer and now it seems that manager David Moyes is finally ready to sit down with the player and talk about his future.
Both are unhappy with the situation and indeed each other and Rooney is fully prepared to tell Moyes just how he felt when the new manager insinuated he was just a second choice back up compared to Robin Van Persie. Rooney had been looking for a new challenge before that and now his desire is stronger to leave than ever.
As one of our punters quite rightly quips, if it was a foreign club leading the chase for the England International, we could see United cutting their losses and selling the forward. Given that it is direct rivals Chelsea however, one can understand the point blank refusal of United to negotiate with Jose Mourinho’s side over a move.
Rooney wants to stay in England and is keen on a link up with Mourinho – yet if no other option presented itself would consider a move to the Emirates as a very last resort. Chelsea are in dire need of another forward and Mourinho has made it clear that whilst he sees great potential in Romelu Lukaku, neither Fernando Torres nor Demba Ba are the type of player he thinks will lead his line to glory on a domestic and European front.
