Manchester United fans are nodding along here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Manchester Evening News seem to have a rather interesting claim about one of their top targets.
The publication seems to think that the Red Devils will not be forced into paying over the odds for Luke Shaw, who has been a summer long target for them.
The Southampton defender is a highly rated player at the minute, but as we know, United are savvy with plenty of experience in the transfer market at that, meaning they will not be made to pay inflated prices – well, anymore at least.
One of our punters claims that Liverpool are facing a similar problem with Adam Lallana and we think the Saints may well be trying to price any competitors out of transfers for their highly coveted England duo.
No matter who the player is, £40 million for a player who is 18 and has proven himself during the course of only one season – not even over a long period of time – is outrageous money.
We do not think Louis van Gaal should be prepared to pay it – and it seems he is not.
United of course lost their utility left back Alexander Buttner yesterday, with the Dutchman opting to join Dynamo Moscow so the Red Devils are still short in that area.
Manchester United fans. Would you consider paying that much money on Luke Shaw or any player who is a one season wonder? Let us know your thoughts below.
