Manchester United fans are about to have their own party here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Telegraph have claimed an £8 million bid for Tom Cleverley is set to be made.
The Red Devils misfit, who seems to deem himself the English Xavi, has no future at Old Trafford under new manager Louis van Gaal and we cannot say we are particularly shocked at that news.
Despite holding a rather lofty opinion of himself, the majority of our punters simply have to agree with our landlord when he notes over pouring a pint that Cleverley is not and will never be a top four player.
It speaks volumes that the main club showing an interest in the Englishman is Aston Villa, who spend the season either flirting with mid-table mediocrity or fighting against relegation and that is a level we think Cleverley is perfect for.
We also have to laugh about the fact that Villa are willing to pay £8 million for the flop – far less than Bayern Munich have just paid for Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso!
Manchester United fans. Is this a dream come true? Is it like a trophy in itself? Let us know your thoughts below.
