Manchester United will be expected to go big over the next two transfer windows after seeing rivals Manchester City run away with the Premier League title so far this term and see Pep Guardiola’s players put in performances we have not seen in the Premier League for quite some time.
The Red Devils and manager Jose Mourinho will be keen to close the gap, and the Portuguese coach even said this week he believed his side needed to spend more if they are going to compete at the top with City.
This has got our landlord here in the Tavern thinking, and he believes that there’s one or two particular areas of the United squad what need strengthening.
One of those positions is at left back, where despite returning to the fold lately, Luke Shaw has struggled to live up to the hype which saw him billed as the next big thing in England when he completed a £30m move from Southampton to Old Trafford a few years back.
Our landlord thinks he should be shipped out, and United should replace him with Monaco full-back Jorge, who has taken Benjamin Mendy’s place in the squad at the French side.
The Brazilian has bags of pace in his locker and has been regular this term, despite only being 21-years-old, meaning he has time to develop and become one of the best in the world in his position should he put the work in.
With Shaw still struggling to convince Mourinho of his talents, the signing of Jorge could well fill a problem position for United and give them much needed quality down the left hand side.
