Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are getting anxious after talkSPORT revealed they had slipped behind Juventus in the race for Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel.
The Serie A giants have supposedly submitted a £20m for the Belgium star as he looks to move away from the Russian Premier League.
He initially moved to Zenit in 2012 in a deal worth £32.5m and since his move he has come on leaps and bounds, which has sparked interest from the best clubs around Europe.
However Witsel is now 26 years old, meaning he is no longer a youngster, and he is nearing the peak of his career, so United will be keen to snap him in the near future.
But Juve look determined to land their man after already seeing a £13m bid rejected.
In January, Witsel made it clear to his current club that he is looking to move on and he could depart the club in the upcoming summer.
Witsel said: “I want to play in one of the top clubs in Europe one day. It’s true that I like the Premier League, because it is one of the best leagues in the world, for me, together with Germany and Spain.”
