Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern were given a huge boost this weekend after it was learnt that manager Jose Mourinho has absolutely no intention of selling David De Gea to Real Madrid.
To the delight of Red Devils fans in the pub, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague confirmed via a Twitter Q&A that Mourinho is willing to fight to keep the Spanish goalkeeper at Old Trafford this summer, which has dealt a huge blow to Madrid’s hopes of bringing him back to Spain.
Madrid are hoping for a huge summer of rebuilding but their chances of bringing the former Atletico man in are looking slimmer and slimmer and Balague thinks Los Blancos might have to start looking elsewhere.
“The original list of potential Galacticos included, amongst others, David De Gea, Thibaut Courtois, Paulo Dybala and Eden Hazard,” Balague told Sky Sports.
“But Dybala has just renewed his contract with Juve and Chelsea have got no intention of selling Hazard and believe Courtois is happy with his leadership role at the club.
“Jose Mourinho has let Real Madrid know he has no intention of selling. The options are getting reduced by the day,” he added.
Madrid have also been hotly linked with a move to sign Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea this summer but with Antonio Conte keen to keep his Belgian shot-stopper at Stamford Bridge for as long as possible, Madrid’s chances of bringing one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers to Spain is now looking unlikely.
De Gea has been in fine form for United this season and our landlord reckons he could turn out to be a Red Devils great.
