Manchester United fans are looking thrilled here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they hear the latest claim from Metro.
The publication are under the impression that Wayne Rooney has agreed a new deal with Manchester United.
As we first thought, the club were thrashing out terms to agree a new deal with the player, and now it seems that it has all been agreed.
Wayne Rooney is now set to become the highest paid player in the entire Premier League – and we think that Manchester United have spent good money.
The former Everton forward will net around £300,000 per week – an amazing amount by anyone’s standards, but given the England international’s form since David Moyes took over from former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, we can understand why United felt the need to tie Rooney down to the club for the rest of his career.
Now Rooney will remain at Old Trafford until 2019, when he will almost certainly be looking towards retirement.
United are facing a mass exodus from a huge majority of their players and with the future of Robin Van Persie in doubt, we think that Rooney could well take the skipper’s armband from Nemanja Vidic, furthering his status as a true United legend.
Manchester United fans. How much of a relief is it that Rooney has committed to the Red Devils cause? Let us know your thoughts below.
