Metro have Manchester United fans looking up from their pints here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the publication claim that Rio Ferdinand could be set to retire.
The long serving Red Devils defender has been speaking about his interests outside of football, and has made no secret of the fact that he has plenty of offers on the table should he choose to hang up his boots this summer.
The former West Ham United and Leeds United player has seen his Manchester United side suffer under new manager David Moyes, with central defensive partner Nemanja Vidic already announcing that he is joining Inter Milan in the summer and Patrice Evra also looking like departing the club.
Ferdinand noted when speaking at the Prince’s Trust: “I will probably work on TV. I’ve got a contract with BT Sport who are doing a lot of football coverage at the moment.
“I will probably go and work with them for a couple of years.
“I’d like to be involved in management as well. Where it will be I don’t know – or if I get the opportunity.
“I will do my badges and stuff like that to give myself the opportunity.
“I will do various different things. I’ve got stuff with #5 – caps and clothing and stuff, magazine and my foundation.”
The 35 year old has of course been one of the most successful defenders in the history of the club and despite a loss of form, will be missed.
Can Moyesie cope without yet another one of his senior players or is it a blessing in disguise? Let us know your thoughts below.
