Manchester United star hints at Old Trafford stay

Wayne RooneyThe Daily Mail provide a rather interesting piece of information for Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they note that Wayne Rooney has not only got the backing of his skipper, but is thrilled with the Old Trafford faithful to boot.

The forward received a fantastic reception during the game against Chelsea on Monday night, and despite trying to engineer a move away from the champions all summer, the majority of the fans were incredibly supportive of the forward.

The formerly angry and confused one now seems to be the supported and appreciated one!

As our landlord notes, the fans’ reaction could well have gone a long way to Rooney deciding to ignore the plea of Jose Mourinho to make his desire to join Chelsea public.

Rooney decided to thank the fans on his official Facebook page and noted: “Here’s some pictures from Monday night’s game. It was an unbelievable reaction from the fans, so thank you.

“I really appreciate your support. It means a lot.”

One person who was not surprised in the slightest when the fans showed their adoration for the forward was skipper Nemanja Vidic, who noted that he expected nothing less from the fans.

The Serbian defender claimed: “The supporters have always supported the players. Wayne is no different.

“He has been supported throughout the years and I don’t think there was a question he would have been supported against Chelsea.

“He has scored so many goals and won so many trophies. I expected him to receive a good reception.”

Given that Chelsea are about to unveil Samuel Eto’o as their latest signing, it seems that Rooney really is out of options when it comes to making a move this summer, so as one of our punters quips, it is probably a good thing that the fans are willing to forgive and forget!

Is this now the end of the summer long Wayne Rooney transfer saga? Let us know your thoughts below.
