Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, there is outcry at the claim from the Daily Mirror who note that Wayne Rooney has hit back at Manchester United, putting his future further in doubt.
Just days after being forced to train alone with the youth squad, Rooney has now taken to his Facebook page and publically thanked England manager Roy Hodgson for being a constant support to him – totally omitting Manchester United or David Moyes from the comments altogether.
The forward wrote: “Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it.
“Can’t wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland.”
As one of our punters quips, quite why Rooney has taken to social media to express his feelings after his ‘angry and confused’ comments caused such a storm on Twitter is beyond us, yet the player seems to feel this is the only way he can now get his point across.
Given Moyes has claimed he is not fully fit and his own team-mates are thought to be unhappy with the way the situation has deteriorated so badly over the summer and the unsettling effect it has had on the team, the only thing left for the England international to do seems to be to hand in an official transfer request.
Manchester United are holding firm on the fact that they will not sell to Chelsea, and that is something we fully understand here in the tavern, yet we are reaching the point where it seems Rooney’s future is untenable at Old Trafford and there are few punters today who think there is no way back for the forward, and this latest dig only further confirms it.
