BBC Sport have Manchester United fans looking rather confused here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They report that Patrice Evra has signed a one-year contract extension at the club – and not all of our punters think this was a good idea.
Of course, the 33-year-old has been a great servant for the Red Devils, but with new manager Louis van Gaal coming in this summer and a shake up occurring, we cannot help but wonder if this was the perfect time for the Frenchman to move on.
The club have seen Nemanja Vidic and also Rio Ferdinand leave and one thing that Evra will provide the back four is a wealth of experience and a will to win – and that could well be vital in a young and inexperienced side next term.
We do not think that the player will be the number one choice next term – but he can provide left back elect Luke Shaw with guidance and advice should he choose to do so.
Manchester United fans. Do you think that offering the defender a one-year extension is a mistake? Was it simply time for Evra to move on from Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts below.
