The Sun on Sunday seem to be all about Manchester United today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Michael Carrick is set to be offered a new one-year deal at the club.
Despite undergoing ankle surgery and facing time out on the sidelines, the former West Ham United and Tottenham midfielder has impressed Louis van Gaal enough to warrant a new deal that will see his stay at Old Trafford extended by another year.
As one of our regulars notes over a pint, Carrick is yet to play under the Dutchman and despite the likes of Ander Herrera and Daley Blind joining, Carrick is still in van Gaal’s plans and will be looking to make his return from injury after the international break is over.
The Red Devils’ ‘Player of the Year’ for 2013 was a key player under Sir Alex Ferguson and will hope to see the situation replicated under Louis van Gaal as he tries to break into the first team squad.
Given the amount of injuries, we think that is more than likely.
Manchester United fans. Is this a good idea or should you be getting rid of players like Carrick and looking towards the future? Let us know your thoughts below.
