The Daily Mirror have some rather worrying news for Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication have claimed that Wayne Rooney is set to miss out on the captaincy at the club – as new manager Louis van Gaal is set to give it to Dutch compatriot Robin van Persie instead.
One of our punters make the point over a pint and a burger that under former manager David Moyes, Rooney was not only installed as the number one forward up top, but it certainly seemed that the next permanent Manchester United skipper would be the forward. Now however, that is a pipedream.
Our landlord seems to think that one or the other – RVP or Rooney – would be left unhappy this summer and now that Moyes has been given the boot, it will be Englishman Rooney.
Embarrassingly, the official Manchester United published a list of potential new skippers under Moyes, and failed to include RVP, who is the Dutch national skipper, claiming he does not have the mentality or experience!
We think that under van Gaal, RVP will be back to his best and giving him the captain’s armband will only help that.
Do you think this will now put the future of Rooney into question? Let us know your thoughts below.
