Manchester United star’s meddling doesn’t help his long-term future

4316445 (1)Punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with rather amused expressions at the latest story coming out of Metro.

The publication claim that Rio Ferdinand could well be looking at the exit door at Old Trafford after his latest tweet.

As we all know, the defender is Twitter friendly at the best of times and now it seems that he simply cannot help himself but make a dig at his manager.

Rio, in a rather cheeky comment according to the vast majority of our punters, questioned just which manager would be sacked next, after Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup succumbed to the chop.

He tweeted: ‘Managerial merry go round looks on the cards again….who next after Laudrup are we thinking??’

As expected, a fair few followers, the vast majority of whom will be Manchester Untied fans, all replied with one word. Moyes.

This, as our seasoned landlord notes, will not have gone down well with his manager, who is already trying to assert control at the club despite persistent rumours that the veteran players are not convinced.

Rio has been linked with both retirement leading to a career in punditry, or a mega money move to the MLS and we think that given the little regard he has for his manager, this could be the case come the summer.

Is Rio on his last legs anyway? Will both he and Nemanja Vidic make way for a younger back line next season? Let us know your thoughts below.
