Metro have a rather interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Manchester United are considering a move for Anzhi Makhachkala’s wantaway striker Samuel Eto’o.
The Cameroonian forward has been linked with a move to Chelsea to end his exile in Russia and is willing to lower his wage demands by a rather compliant £50,000.
Now it seems that Red Devils boss David Moyes is interested in the forward and could well be willing to try and get ahead of Chelsea in the race for Eto’o.
Jose Mourinho is keen on the former Inter Milan player who of course enjoyed so much success under him, winning the treble, and as we all know, Chelsea are keen to buy a forward, spending much of their summer chasing Wayne Rooney.
Rooney of course did well when he came off the bench for United against Swansea City at the weekend, yet did not celebrate with the team after the victory or goals, leading to more speculation over his future this summer.
Given Rooney would cost significantly more than Eto’o – who would be available for around £5 million, it is clear to see why he appears to be an attractive prospect – wages aside obviously.
The player himself is known to want a move to the Premier League and is keen to push one through before the end of the transfer window – and Moyes needs signings. As one of our punters quips, that seems like a perfect solution.
Will Manchester United really bring Eto’o to Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts below.
