Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern were left disappointed with yesterday’s news from Metro that Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has signed a new deal at the Vicente Calderon.
However today’s copy of The Mirror reports that, despite this, United still have a chance of landing the Spanish ace in the current transfer window.
The 22-year-old penned a new four-year deal with Diego Simeone’s side supposedly keeping him at the club until 2018, but Spanish reports indicate that this ‘means nothing’, and was just taken as a way to increase his release clause to a massive £50 million.
This new deal could even see a bumper move away from the club, with Atletico having previous in this regard. Both Sergio Aguero and Fernando Torres left the Madrid-based club at a huge price shortly after signing an improved contract and Koke could be the next to follow suit.
We must admit that £50 million would be a lot to pay for Koke, despite his obvious talents and it is possible that United will be priced out of the market by this increase in release clause.
Today’s speculation has seen Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, and we believe that this has more substance that a surprise swoop for Koke, given this new deal with Atletico.
Can you see the Atletico ace arriving at Old Trafford in the near future or is Mata far more likely? Let us know your thoughts below.
