Despite the England striker surpassing Bobby Charlton’s records, to make him England’s highest ever scorer with 50 goals for his country, the England captain feels he may be dropped from the starting line up.
An article in the Guardian reporting on an interview with the striker claims just that and has got football fans alike discussing intensively what is best for the England team.
Rooney has struggled for goals in recent weeks. He is yet to score in the Premier League this season for Manchester United and his two goals in the two recent England games have both been penalties.
Harry Kane’s emergence over the past 12 months has put real strain on Rooney’s position in the team. Kane scored 31 goals in all competitions for Spurs last season and has made a promising start to his England career scoring three goals in his first four caps, including the opening goal against Switzerland on Tuesday. Our England fans have been calling for Kane to get more game time for England and this could see Rooney being dropped.
Our landlord has been talking up Harry Kane a lot recently and even reckons that the striker could go on to beat Rooney’s new set record. At only 22, the young striker has many years ahead of him at international level and if he keeps up his promising start, he could mount a serious challenge!
Do you think Rooney should be dropped for Kane? Would you play them together? Do you think Kane should start at all or is Rooney still better? Let us know what you think below!
