The Daily Mirror has Everton fans looking up from their pints today at the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Leighton Baines has no chance of making a switch to Old Trafford.
The player has long been linked with a move to Manchester United and even before the arrival of David Moyes, former manager Alex Ferguson was a huge fan of the full back. Now it seems that a move is firmly off the cards, and all because of the way Manchester United went about luring David Moyes to Old Trafford.
The manager freely admits that United and Fergie approached him months before his actual move and that is what Everton and their board are so furious about. No blame has gone of Moyes for the move – the fact that he wanted a new challenge and one as big as United has been understood, but despite a written letter from United chiefs to the board at Goodison, they are still fuming and relations between the two clubs have been damaged enough for Everton to claim that unless a mega bid far too good to turn down and significantly more than the £12 million previous bid comes in, the full back will be going nowhere.
This is also though to apply to midfielder Marouane Fellani who has also become a long term target of Manchester United and who has made it clear a move to further his career would be welcome.
