The latest transfer speculation has caused quite a stir in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The Mirror claims that Manchester United have been offered another chance to recruit Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.
United were desperately close to landing the Portuguese left back in the summer but the deal collapsed due to complications over paperwork.
This saw the defender remaining at the Bernabeu under newly appointed Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.
But with just two appearances for the La Liga outfit this term, he has now been informed by Ancelotti that he can depart the club as he looks to hang onto his place in the Portugal World Cup squad.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, was reportedly trying to find out if David Moyes was prepared to move again for Coentrao.
It is thought that United are still in the market for a left back with Everton’s Leighton Baines understood to be the prime target but the 25-year-old Madrid man could emerge as cheaper and younger alternative than the England international.
Coentrao would offer experience to Moyes’ defence after he amassed game time at both Champions League and international level over the past few seasons.
Earlier in the tavern, reports emerged that indicated Moyes wasn’t preparing to make any signings in January. However Coentrao’s reported availability could make the Scot think again as he looks for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra at Old Trafford.
