The Daily Mail claim that Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is keen on playing in the Champions League.
Clearly that will not happen with Stoke City, and as one of our punters notes, there are a fair few clubs who are on the look out for a top keeper and who would be able to offer the player that chance.
Begovic who is a long-term Manchester United target has been linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks, and whilst manager Mark Hughes has come out and claimed that there will not be a deal with the Spanish giants, he claimed that there are other things on the mind of the keeper.
Hughes noted to ESPN: “I’m not sure where the story originates from, but certainly there has been no contact between the clubs.
“But it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a modicum of truth in it — that top teams are looking at Asmir — because he is an outstanding goalkeeper.
“We are certainly not encouraging it. Asmir is a huge part of what we are trying to do here.
“But he is an ambitious player and I’m sure he wants at some point to test himself at the highest level possible, in the Champions League.”
The Guardian reported this week that United are still keeping tabs on the Bosnian international despite boasting David De Gea at their disposal but as one of our punters notes over a beer, they don’t exactly look like being in the Champions League next season do they!
Is it simply a matter of when and not if in regards to Begovic leaving the Britannia Stadium this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
