Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are given the positive news by the London Evening Standard that their target from Borussia Dortmund – Ilkay Gundogan – is open to a Premier League switch.
It comes after the midfielder just recovered from a horrific injury, which limited him to only three appearances last season and it is believed the 24-year-old is seeking a fresh challenge.
And now that he is has returned to full fitness in a struggling Dortmund side, he has attracted attention from major clubs from around Europe.
Real Madrid have already had a bid rejected, leaving big spenders Manchester United feeling as though they have got a realistic chance of landing him.
“Real Madrid made an offer for me but my club refused it,” the Germany international said.
“At the time I had two more seasons on my contract. But also, my injury wrecked everything. I couldn’t play for 14 months.
“Now I want to look forward and make up for lost time with sporting success.
“Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals. If one day I leave here, I’d like to play in Spain or for one of the big teams in England.”
