Discussion has broke out in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest transfer speculation made its way into the bar.
The Mirror report that Benfica are ready to concede defeat in their battle to keep Manchester United target Nemanja Matic at the club in January.
The Portuguese club have now claimed that they have seen strong interest from the Red Devils and Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund with the 25-year-old expected to depart the Stadium of Light when the window opens next month.
Benfica reportedly want around £20 million for the former Chelsea player who only joined the club in 2012 as part of the deal that took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge.
Matic has been a long-term target for the Old Trafford club with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson previously attempting to bring him back to the Premier League but to no avail.
The former Chelsea man has really impressed us with some dynamic displays with the Portuguese club and it comes as little to surprise to see a depth of interest from across Europe.
As our landlord admits, after last night’s defeat to Everton, United certainly need all the reinforcements they can get in January.
Is Matic the man United need to solve their issues in midfield? Let us know your thoughts below.
